Magyar vándor (Hungarian wanderer) is a Hungarian comedy that shows some of the most important historical events of Hungary in a comedic or tragicomedic way. The main characters are the seven leaders of Hungary who, according to the legends, led the Hungarians to this land. In the movie, they get into various adventures while trying to find this homeland and their beloved Hungarians through centuries.
While this movie is a funny approach to Hungarian history, there are many stereotypes and inner jokes in its plot or dialogues, so might be hard to understand and enjoy everything without the background knowledge. My favourite part is how Hungarian poems are recited, famous Hungarian inventions are reinvented and how these ancient men are always so surprised by modern technology.
Hungarian humour can be a bit crude sometimes, but it's an enjoyable watch for a night!
